It
is of paramount importance to develop students’ communicative competence, the
ability to produce the language effectively and efficiently. That is, the
teacher must focus mainly on it in order to gear students to interact with
others. As it appears, in Moroccan EFL curriculum, the communicative competence
is developed through using standard-based approach, the use of communication,
and it requires the use of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.
To start the discussion about the
focus on communicative competence within Moroccan EFL classes through the use
of standard- based approach. Obviously, standard – based approach focuses
clearly on many components- such as, culture, comparison and connection ;
communities and communication. More specifically, communication as a process of
interaction and of exchanging information about a particular topic and the
ability to speak another language. In the same way, in Moroccan EFL classes,
communicative competence is the major focus to develop per se
students’competences and abilities to speak English clearly and collaboratively
in the class-room or outside the class-room. As it is well-known’’ English as a
vernacular language’’which gives the students the impression to use that
language in the process of communication.
As it is well- stated about
the use of communicative competence in Moroccan EFL classes, it is vital to
talk about the need of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in order to use the
language in the process of communication.. On the one hand, the intrinsic
motivation is of great import for students in EFL classes – seemingly, the
teacher must lead the students to use this language in communication by urging
them to aquire an intrinsic motivation, the motivation which comes from the
inside. Perhaps not surprisingly, it is neccessary for the teacher to impose,
to try and to encourage his or her students extrinsically in order to be self-
motivated and self- esteem. Clearly enough, extrinsic motivation can be the
reason why the students want to develop their communicative competence e.g., to
speak English fluently in order to manage an hotel or a work place or just to
use it through media.
Within Moroccan EFL
classes, the teacher must focus authentically on communicative competence in order to lead students to be
able to speak the language fluently and effectively. And, at the same time, the
students will use English language for many purposes. That is to say, all
teachers of English must help students to be able to speak and listen i.e., to
use that language for communication by adopting Standard- Based Approach.
