Vocabulary Strategies and Motivation Used by Learners of English as a Foreign Language.

                 Teachers should create more favorable conditions to boost the motivation level of foreign students to adopt and use appropriate strategies in learning English vocabularies and consequently become proficient in English language as a whole. As it is widely known, in learning a language, vocabulary forms the cornerstone of the whole process since vocabulary influences speaking, reading, and writing ability. 


               Generally speaking, it is widely acknowledged that learning strategies and motivation have become one of the main factors tha tsuccessfully help students learn English as a foreign language. One of the mos tkey challenges that learners will face during the process of second language learning is learning vocabulary. It is worth highlighting that Vocabulary has been recognized as crucial to language use in which insufficient vocabulary knowledge of the learners leads to difficulties in Second language learning and its usage.


         Motivation is basically one of the most influential factors in all human endeavors, including learning vocabularies in a language mostly second language. In other words, motivation is a word derived from the word ’motive’ which means reason, needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It means that vocabulary learning and for that matter language learning is not a day journey therefore there must be a motivation either integrative or instrumental to keep learners going with anxiety and enthusiasm about future expectations. It is manifested in behaviors such as play, exploration, and challenge seeking that people often do for external rewards.


          Students have a deep need to understand the learning objectives and the learning process, enjoy learning English with classmates of similar English proficiency. In the same line, research indicates that the process of learning a second language is affected by the first language due to several factors. Learners appear to rely on their native language structures when writing and speaking in a target language.


           As noted previously, it appears that vocabulary learning strategies may be defined as the process and actions that language learners consciously and deliberately deploy to help them learn and use words in a particular language more effectively. It can also be seen as thoughts and actions, consciously chosen and operationalized by language learners, to assist them in carrying out a multiplicity of tasks from the very outset of learning vocabularies to the most advanced levels of a target language. 


             Here, in the last place, it could be concluded that Vocabulary strategies and Motivation used by Learners of English as a Foreign Language.This suggests that both cognitive and memory approaches to vocabulary learning can be useful.
